1. Answer any three of the following questions in about 100 words each           (3 x 5 =15 marks)
(a) Discuss the main focus of Gardiner's essay "On Shaking Hands"
(b) Explain the ways in which India has been a leader in non-violent revolution.
(c) Trace Ray's transition from commercial art to film making
(d) Narrate the sequence of events up to the visit of the mother and her daughter to Malachova's
(e) Explain with evidence how Bengali Film was not a very developed field when Ray entered it?
(f) Explain the significance of the title of the story "Not Just oranges".


2. Answer any two of the following questions in about 100 words each            (2 x 5 =10 marks)

(b) Write the significance of the title 'Refugee Mother and Child'

5. Read the following passage and make notes :
insects are small creatures mostly six legs, no back bone and a body divided into three They are the most plentiful of all living creatures. From man's point of view insects can divided into two main kinds; those insects which are useful to him and those which are harmful to him. There are also those which are mainly interesting or beautiful. Bees and silk worms are examples of useful insects. Bees collect honey and wax from flowers for our use. Silk worms supply us with fine strong silk.These insects provide man with food and clothing. There are some insects which are not directly useful or harmful to man. But are interesting and beautiful. Examples of such insects are colourful butterflies, pretty little lady birds and fluttering moths.
