World Bank projects 2017 growth of 2.7% globally
Global economic growth is expected to accelerate 2.7 percent this year, up from an estimated 2.3 percent last year the World Bank projected on 10th January. In the latest edition of the Global Economic Prospects, the World Bank said growth in advanced economies is expected to edge up to 1.8 per cent in 2017. Growth in emerging market and developing economies as a whole should pick up to 4.2 per cent this year from 3.4 per cent in the year just ended amid modestly rising commodity prices, the bank said. However, the outlook is clouded by uncertainty about policy direction in major economies, the report said, adding that a protracted period of uncertainty could prolong the slow growth in investment that is holding back low, middle, and high income countries. India grows at 7.6%: The World Bank expected India's economy grew at 7.6 per cent in 2015-16 and the World Bank expected the country to return to this growth rate by 2017-18. That way, it slightly cut growth projections for the next financial year by 0.1 percentage points from the 7.7 per cent forecast earlier.
