National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) an autonomous body, has been established by the University Grants Commission in 1994 in response to recommendations of National Policy on Education (1986) and the Programme of Action (POA, 1992) Which lay special emphasis on evaluating the quality of higher Education in India. The Prime mandate of NAAC, as envisaged to assess and accredit institution of higher learning. universities and college or one or more of their units, i e., department schools, institution, programmer etc... The NAAC function through its General council and Executive committee where educational administrators, policy makers and senior academicians. from a cross-section of system of higher education represented.
Under the new methodology introduced by NAAC with effect from 1 April, 2007. The higher education institutions are a and accredited by a two-step approach. In the first step, the institution is required to seek "Institutional Eligibility for Quality Assessment (IEQA) and the second is the assessment and accreditation of the institute under the grades 'A','B','C' accredited institutions and 'D' for those which are not accredited.
NAAC has identified seven criteria:
(i) curricular aspects,

(ii) Teaching learning and evaluation,
(iii) Research, consultancy and extension,
(iv) Infrastructure and learning resources,
(v) Student support and progression,
(vi) Governance and leadership and
(vii) Innovative practices as the basis for its assessment procedure.
In pursuance of the National action plan of the NAAC, Bangalore, for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up gradation of institutions of higher education, the NAAC proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance cell (IQAC) as a post, accreditation quality sustenance measure. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of an institutions system and work towards realizing the goals at quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the performance of institutions.
IQAC shall evolve mechanisms and procedures for:
a) Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial tasks.

b) The relevance and quality of academic and research programmes
c) Equitable access to and affordability of academic programmes for various sections and society.
d) optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning.
e) The credibility of education procedure.
f) Ensuring the adequacy maintenance and functioning of the support structure and series.
g) Research sharing and net working with other institutions in India and abroad.
Functions of IQAC are:
a. Development and application of quality benchmarks parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the institution.
b. Dissemination of information on the various quality parameters of higher education.
c. Organization of workshops, seminars on quality related thermos and promotion quality circles.
d. Documentation of various programme leading to the quality improvement.
e. Acting as on model agency of the institution for quality related activities.
f. Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to be submitted to NAAC based on the quality parameter.
