What is the Difference between Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas

Centralised Kendriya Vidyalayas:
  • 1. schools give priority for admission to children of central government employees, Defence personnel and All India Personnel. Remaining seats will be filled up with other types of children.
  • 2. Medium of Instruction is Hindi and English in these schools.
  • 3. These schools prepare pupils for All India Higher secondary Examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi,
  • 4. They have their own buildings with good facilities.
  • 5. The quality of teaching is reasonably high by an appropriate teacher pupil ratio.
  • 6. Teachers are highly qualified and provided with good salaries and service conditions.
  • 7. These schools observe good rules of discipline and good behaviour.
  • 8. These schools provide free education to the children of SC, ST and Ex-military person's childrens.

Navodaya Vidyalayas
To provide good quality modern education to the talented children of rural areas without taking the family's social and economic conditions. The government of India prepared a scheme to establish Navodaya schools one in each district the seventh Five year plan. These Navodaya schools are
managed by an autonomous organization called Navodaya
Samithi. The Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD acts as its chairman and there are six regional offices at Chandi Pune, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Shillong.

  • 1. Admissions into these schools are made at the 6th class level on the basis of admission test conducted in the concerned district by CBSE
  • 2. Childrens, who passed 5th class from any rural area, are eligible to appear for the test.
  • 3. Reservation of seats in favour of children belonging to
  • SC, ST should be followed.
  • 4. These schools provide education to both boys and girls.
  • 5. They are residential in nature.
  • 6. Free lodging, boarding, uniform and books are provided in these schools
  • 7. These schools are affiliated to CBSE
  • 8. Education is imparted by using good audio-visual aids.
  • 9. Classes should be conducted from 6th to 10th or 12th classes.
  • 10. Up to 7th class medium of instruction is mother tongue. From 8 class onwards medium of instruction should be English or Hindi.
  • 11. Staff are appointed on national level and also provided training by NCERT
  • 12. For National integration 30% of 9th class students will be migrated from Hindi speaking districts to another Navodaya School in non-Hindi speaking district.
  • 13. The samithi has setup an Academic Advisory Committee to guide these Navodaya Schools on academic matters.
Criticism: There is a criticism that these schools are mostly use the children of Hindi speaking Area. The rural and backward children are unable to get the admission in to these schools.
